Animator for The Good Advice Cupcake
David Munguia (he/him), also known as Moongeeuh, has been at the Animation Lab since 2021. He was an Animator and Writer on The Good Advice Cupcake for three years, before successfully pitching Puerco y Babosa as a new brand for the Lab. He draws inspiration from everyday life. If he has a funny experience, he writes it down. If he watches something new and loves the execution, he tries to recreate it in his own way. Animation always seemed “easier” to him because he doesn’t need a whole crew like films do; he just needs an idea and a drawing tablet. David’s goal is comedy – he hopes that people are laughing at the absurd stories he tells with Puerco y Babosa. He also hopes that Latine people everywhere, and Chicano Americans especially, feel seen and can relate to his show. At the Animation Lab, David leads a small team of animators while also writing scripts, thumbnailing sequences, animating, editing, and handling social strategy. His favorite part is sneaking into the comment sections and reading the audience reactions. He absolutely loves the feedback and funny responses from commentators.
His advice for aspiring animators is, “Create, create, create, and have fun doing it! Make time to write and develop your own animated shorts, whether it's for a million viewers or your immediate family. Doing so will build your portfolio and teach you what stories you want to tell.”
David lives in Simi Valley, California, and loves the quiet suburbs. No loud cities for him. His current obsession is physical media and he recently started rebuilding his CD and DVD collection. He loves shopping for discounted items at local libraries. Also, David has a HUGE Sonic the Hedgehog collection.
