ELIZABETH GOTTLIEB

Animator for The Good Advice Cupcake

Elizabeth Gottlieb (she/her) has been an Animator and Designer at the Animation Lab and Media Labs since 2020. Both her parents are artists and she’s always had an interest in drawing and creating. She was exposed to many animated films like My Neighbor Totoro, Little Nemo in Slumberland, and The Thief and the Cobbler, along with all of the Disney classics and the wacky antics of Nickelodeon, which really shaped her perception of storytelling and art. Elizabeth loves to make people laugh. She thinks there's nothing better than the joy of watching a film or video with someone that makes you both crack up and quote lines back to each other. She hopes what she creates gives everyone permission to be silly! At the Animation Lab, Elizabeth is responsible for creating animated shorts for the internet. Her role includes character and effects animation, storyboarding, prop design, character design, and even scriptwriting and voiceover. What she enjoys about her job is the amount of creative control she has over the content she creates and being able to try on many different roles of the creative pipeline. Elizabeth's hope for the industry is that the interest in independent animation will continue to increase; so many wonderful indie projects created in the last few years truly inspired her and she’s excited to see what others in the field create!

Elizabeth’s favorite workflow shortcut (although she feels late to the party) is the "Scene" function in Adobe Animate. It’s amazing and she’s not sure why it took nearly 10 years of her software usage to start using it! Her advice for aspiring animators is, “Take the time to do things that are not related to animation, whatever that may be. Hiking, photography, fiber art, anything you want to try or experience. Your experiences outside of animation will inform your work and bring you joy.”

Elizabeth won 1st Runner Up in CSU Channel Islands Film and Animation Screening in 2012 for Best Traditional 2D Animation. She has lived in Los Angeles, California for her whole existence. Elizabeth loves that there’s so much history and culture throughout the city. Even though she’s lived here her entire life, there are still many things she hasn't even experienced yet. Elizabeth started playing Dungeons & Dragons in 2016 and has been participating in a weekly DnD game for 6 years with the same group. She has also become an avid fiber artist over the past few years. She learned to knit in college but during the pandemic, she picked up knitting and crocheting and has been making things nonstop – especially blankets, hats, and amigurumi animals. One of Elizabeth’s favorite projects is crocheting themed opossums. She may have an opossum obsession…she loves how expressive they are, how relatable they seem, and how extremely fun they are to draw!
