Animator for The Land of Boggs

Kate Costello (she/her) has been an Animator on The Land of Boggs since 2023. She hopes to make people laugh or at least have a little bit of fun because life’s too short to take everything so seriously! Kate always wanted to be an artist growing up, but it wasn’t until high school that she started considering animation. At the time, she was inspired by popular cartoons like Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Amazing World of Gumball. She still loves those shows, but is currently inspired by the works of Satoshi Kon, Lei Lei, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Ruben Ostlund. She’s also getting into eastern European animation from the 70s and 80s. At the Animation Lab, she does a bit of everything. Storyboards are passed down and she’ll take the short through the rest of the process to completion. This includes animation, clean-up, color design, sound design, and occasionally, voice acting for a background character. 

Kate’s advice for aspiring animators is, “Nothing is precious! Don't be afraid of scrapping something and restarting. If something isn't working, there's another solution out there. I can't tell you how many times I've had to rethink a shot or a certain movement because it wasn't working out the way I planned. In almost every case, when I restarted and took a different approach, the new solution was always better. Animation is so flexible, don't confine yourself!”

From a small town called Scituate, Rhode Island, Kate now lives in Brooklyn, New York. There's a lot to appreciate about the city, but the thing she loves most is people watching – there's always something interesting going on. She loves knitting, although right now she can only knit scarves and balaclavas. She also adores reality TV – especially reality dating shows. Love Island UK takes the cake, but Kate’s also a huge fan of FBOY Island, Perfect Match, and Are You The One?. She’s still trying to figure out how she feels about MILF Manor.
