KYRA KUPETSKY

Character Development Lead for Chikn Nuggit

Kyra Kupetsky (she/her) has been at the Animation Lab since 2017. She quickly became the Lead Animator and Voice Actor for The Good Advice Cupcake, and then created Chikn Nuggit in 2020 and has been the showrunner ever since. She draws inspiration from classic UPA cartoons, anime, and artists around her. Kyra hopes that her work shows people that they can make content even if it’s short and simple, and that the internet is a great way of sharing work with the world. At the Animation Lab, she’s the creator of Chikn Nuggit and is in charge of developing ideas, writing scripts, animating episodes, assigning episodes to team members, compositing, adding sfx and music, posting, and creating merch. Kyra loves the creative freedom at the Lab – she does it all but her favorite part has to be drawing and animating her show! The ability to have full control over the episodes is rare and exciting in this industry, and she appreciates the amazing opportunities that have come with the show, including collabs, branded deals, conventions, and merchandise opportunities. Her hope is that the BuzzFeed Animation Lab grows even bigger and gains even more opportunities!

Kyra’s advice for aspiring animators is, “Make what makes you happy! Forget worrying about being cringe and vulnerable! Who cares if your stuff is niche or just for you? Go for it! Draw and create what fulfills you the most.”

From New York, Kyra now lives in Burbank, California. She loves it; it's so sunny and peaceful and many of her friends are here. She’s currently hooked on Good Omens and Kyra loves lifting weights, working on garage-kit figures, hanging with friends, trying new food, and listening to long YouTube essays about all sorts of random things – from true-crime to weird fandom stuff.
