Creative Director and Co-Lead of The Land of Boggs

Simeon Kondev (he/him) has been with the Animation Lab since 2020. Starting as a Story Artist for The Land of Boggs, he became Creative Director to the Lab and Co-Lead of Boggs in 2024. Animation as a medium is able to encapsulate many of his interests such as filmmaking, drawing, comedy, and music, as well as his temperament - patient, controlling, and obsessive (his words!). Simeon enjoys taking on the challenge of constraints and limited resources to make content even funnier and more interesting. For The Land of Boggs, Simeon writes and storyboards cartoons together with Co-Lead Brent Sievers, and works closely with animators Emily Curran and Kate Costello. As Creative Director for the Lab, he has a lot of fun working collaboratively with all teams to analyze workflow and ideation strategies. When Simeon started, he was new to this social-media-cartoon market. Since then, a robust approach for creating this content has developed and it has been a learning process that he finds interesting, challenging, and fun.

Simeon’s advice for aspiring animators is, “Pay attention to the way you enjoy working. Try to optimize the parts of animated filmmaking you enjoy and marginalize the parts that you do not enjoy.”
